Schools of Kalamunda Area Motor Program

Characteristics

Children considered for inclusion in the Motor Development Program are  those who fail to make progress at school, despite the fact that they seem to be of normal or above average intelligence.

Discussion with the parent or teacher concerned reveals some, or all, of the following characteristics: -

· Inability to concentrate for any length of time

· Difficulty with reading

· Ability to perform well orally compared with a marked difficulty performing written tasks

· Inability to carry out sequence of instructions or to remember messages

· Reversal of letter and numbers

· Inability to remember spelling rules

· Lack of co-ordination ~ may appear clumsy

· Difficulty with numbers

· Difficulty with handwriting and other fine motor skills

· Mixed laterality

We are concerned for children with learning difficulties. Some of these children have not made satisfactory improvement despite their placement in withdrawal groups for remedial work. For these children a Motor Program to develop basic visual, spatial and tactile perceptions can support the more usual methods of remediation.
