SKAMP

Schools of Kalamunda Area Motor Program

IMPLEMENTATION

The SKAMP program is conducted part-time on weekdays during school terms. Children attend the centre for one hour per week, where they work on set tasks given to increase gross and fine motor skills on a one-child one-teacher or small group basis. These tasks include auditory and visual perception and tuition in academic areas where needed.  Parents can assist by encouraging their children to practice various physical skills, skipping, patterning or other activities set.

Parents are advised to discuss their child’s school progress regularly with the class teacher, enabling them and the teacher to recognize difficulties as they arise.

SKAMP’S Motor Program is offered as a supplement to the school curriculum and is in no way a substitute for the school remedial program.

When a child has been allocated a time for his/her session parents are asked to:

· Inform the class teacher of the time and day.

· Provide transport for the child to and from session.

· Notify the school if they intend their child should walk unattended from school to the SKAMP Centre and back again.

The continued provision of this Motor Development program depends on parents, the Committee and the SKAMP teachers working together and liaising with the class teachers to ensure success.
